Conservation recognition

A Saskatchewan educator, farmer and former executive director of the Soil Conservation Council of Canada was inducted into the Conservation Hall of Fame March 24.

Glen Hass was selected for his dedication and leadership in promoting soil conservation in Canada.

He helped organize the first national SCCC conference in 1995 and then became the council’s executive director, helping establish its vision, mandate and mission. In that position, he helped build a strong provincial network of soil conservation groups that could work together to enhance awareness of climate change and the effects it had on agriculture.

Hass has degrees in agriculture and education from the University of Saskatchewan and after receiving a master’s degree in continuing education, taught high school in Saskatoon. He later became an associate professor of extension programming in agriculture and rural development at the University of Saskatchewan. He retired from teaching in 1993 and has since been consulting in the agricultural industry through his firm, Organizational Management Services.
