Farmers wanting to import chemicals for the 2007 growing season under the federal government’s Grower Requested Own Use (GROU) program have until Sept. 21 to apply.

The eligible products include Touchdown, Banvel II and Roundup Weathermax.

The deadline is based on estimated frost dates and is designed to provide sufficient time for farmers to import and apply the products, which cannot be used after a killing or damaging frost.

Meanwhile, a coalition of producer groups has launched a website to try to streamline the disposal of used containers by enabling producers to pay container disposal fees on-line.

Those fees are included in the price of domestically purchased products.

There are two steps: pre-pay by credit card at www.groucontainerfees.ca; and then obtain an application form from www.pmra-arla.gc.ca and use the receipt number from Step 1 to complete the paperwork.
