Cattle killed in highway accident

CARNDUFF, Sask. – Eleven feeder cattle died when the semi-trailer truck they were travelling in flipped onto its side.

Wakaw, Sask., RCMP report that the accident occurred Aug. 9, at about noon, when a semi-trailer hauling 70 head of feeder cattle was travelling east on Highway 41. The cattle in the trailer shifted the load, the vehicle hit the shoulder and the trailer turned on its side. The driver was treated and released from hospital at Melfort, Sask.

Ten heifers died during the accident.

One was severely injured and had to be put down. The remaining heifers were loaded and continued on their journey to a feedlot.
