Canola researcher heads Ag-West

SASKATOON (Staff) – Ag-West Biotech Inc. has a new president – William Riley, a biochemist who most recently was head of research and development at the Canola Council of Canada.

Riley takes over from Murray McLaughlin who has moved on to be Saskatchewan’s deputy minister of agriculture.

Ag-West was created by the provincial government in 1989 to foster development of the ag bio-tech industry in Saskatchewan and showcase it nationally and internationally.

While with the Canola Council, Riley was responsible for managing research projects it funded and co-ordinating international market development.

He holds a doctorate in nutritional biochemistry from Cornell University and has post-doctoral training in biochemistry at the University of Minnesota.

In addition to his duties at Ag-West, he will also manage the International Centre for Agriculture Science and Technology.
