Canadian Grain Commission appoints new chief

Glacier FarmMedia – Longtime Manitoba civil servant David Hunt has been appointed Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Grain Commission the federal government announced today.

“I have no doubt that Mr. Hunt’s leadership experience and commitment to a competitive, innovative, and resilient agriculture sector will ensure Canada continues to be recognized as a leading producer, processor, and exporter of high-quality grain,” said federal Minister of Agriculture Lawrence MacAulay said in a news release.

Most recently, Hunt served as assistant deputy minister for Manitoba’s environment and climate change department. He has also been the assistant deputy minister for the corporate services and innovation division. He held several positions for Manitoba Agriculture, the news release said.

Hunt’s four-year term as chief commissioner begins May 13.

Previous chief commissioner Doug Chorney’s term was extended to April 30 as the search for a successor had not yet wrapped up.
