Saskatchewan voters in the Wood River constituency will head back to the polls later this month to elect an MLA, following the resignation of Liberal Glen McPherson.
Candidates for the June 26 byelection were to be selected this week.
Four people were challenging for the Saskatchewan Party nomination, including Yogi Huyghebaert. He and the NDP candidate ran against McPherson in last fall’s general election.
New Democrat Robert Anderson, a Shaunavon farmer and businessman, has already been nominated.
The Liberals were to select their candidate June 5 at a nomination convention in Ponteix.
“Some of you may be asking why are we running a candidate when we are in a coalition government,” said provincial Liberal president Greg Gallagher. “The answers to that are quite simple. We want to send a clear message to the people of Saskatchewan that Liberals are not New Democrats.
