After four days of hearings, a metre-high stack of documents and hours of debate, a decision to accept or reject a 7,200-sow barn, south of Hardisty, Alta., is still weeks away.
Rod Hawken, secretary of the Flagstaff County Development Appeal Board, said the board has met three times since the October hearings.
The board is waiting for the official court transcripts of the hearing before meeting again to discuss the hog barn development proposed by a Taiwanese company.
It’s unusual for the board to take such a long time to make a decision, he said. Earlier, two unrelated issues took the board less than two hours to rule on.
“It’s getting close,” said Hawken.
The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 20.
Hawken said the board members are taking their job seriously in deciding whether to reject or accept the gigantic sow barn into their area.
“It’s a very serious issue.”
The county’s development officer approved the project earlier.
