Arid nations join forces

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Qatar has launched an initiative at the United Nations to build an alliance designed to strengthen food security in arid nations.

It hopes the alliance will help develop models and share expertise among countries seeking to maximize arable land and secure food supplies. The Global Dry Land Alliance is to comprise 45 to 60 nations with arid or semi-arid environments.
