A Canadian company with innovative inoculant and inoculation-like technologies for pulse and non-pulse crops has been bought by an American company.
Nitragin, Inc. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, through its Canadian affiliate Nitragin Holding Inc., has bought Agribiotics Inc. of Cambridge, Ont.
Agribiotics received registration this year for Pulse Signal, a lentil and pea seed-applied product that harnesses natural plant signals involved in the nodulation process. These signal molecules stimulate rhizobia already in the soil or that are applied to the seed, leading to earlier nodulation and nitrogen fixation.
It also has patents on a natural signal molecule known as LCO or Nod Factor, to increase seed germination, seedling emergence and overall plant growth in non-legumes, including corn, canola, potatoes and other vegetables.
Nitragin is also a leader in LCO promoter technology.
“Nitragin has a proven track record of successfully commercializing this revolutionary LCO promoter technology, making it profitable for everyone from growers to the distribution channel,” said Scott Fleetwood, vice-president of sales and marketing, in a News release
