Alternative delivery options as postal workers locked out

The Western Producer is one of North America’s oldest and most respected farm publications.The 87-year-old news organization delivers more than 55,000 newspapers each week to farmers and the agricultural industry.

Most of the subscribers of the print publication are located in rural Western Canada, a region that has few affordable delivery services for printed information other than Canada Post. All media delivery systems, internet, telephone, and television in rural areas are more expensive than in urban Canada. The postal system is one of the areas of information delivery that is affordable for rural Canadians.

As a business The Western Producer has planned for the past two months in preparation for a potential service disruption at Canada Post.

Staff of the Producer have arranged for and coordinated alternative delivery systems using trucking and courier services to reach central delivery points within most rural and urban communities in western Canada (see the list below).

More than 700 agricultural and community retail locations will have copies of the newspaper available for pick up by Monday, June 20th at the latest.
