The Alberta government doled out $5 million April 12 to 14 renewable energy projects as part of its $239 million bioenergy program.
The money will be used to help integrate biofuel- and biomass-generated power with the province’s traditional energy sources.
Under the Biorefining Commercialization and Market Development program, money will be used for a variety of projects, including feasibility studies to establish biodiesel processing facilities based on vegetable and animal fat.
Six projects will be funded under the Bioenergy Infrastructure Development Program, including Highmark Disposals’ construction of a specified risk materials destruction plant and dead stock handling facility and construction of a three -megawatt green power biogas co-generation project.
The provincial government announced the five-year program last year as a way to build a viable market for bioenergy in the province and encourage further private investment.
