More people attended Open Farm Days in Alberta last year, spending a record number of dollars during the two-day summer event.
Provincial numbers released Feb. 8 show Open Farm Days is gaining traction in the province, with 117 farms participating in the event in 2018, up from 101 farms in 2017.
Further, there were 23,543 visits, a 17 percent increase from 20,129 in 2017.
More money was also spent. Sales reached $189,393, a 30 percent spike from $146,121 in 2017.
“I am proud that we are strengthening our support for the local food sector, which continues to grow,” said Alberta Agriculture Minister Oneil Carlier, in a new release.
Applications are now open to participate in the 2019 event, which is scheduled to run Aug. 17-18. Applications can be accessed at www.albertafarmdays.ca.
