Interest is high to buy one of Alberta’s largest oats processing facilities, said the receiver in charge of the sale.

“There is a fair amount of interest (in Alberta Oats),” said Don MacLean with PriceWaterhouseCoopers of Edmonton. The receiver has set Oct. 17 as the final date to accept offers on the oats processing facility north of Edmonton.

“We’ll continue to monitor the process and see what comes in,” said MacLean.

The oats processing facility has continued to operate since it went into voluntary receivership in August. The company was hurt by last year’s drought and the inability of farmers to fill their oats contracts.

The company owed farmers about $100,000 when it went into receivership. It was licensed with the Canadian Grain Commission.
