CALGARY (Staff) — The national beef tripartite stabilization program finished with a final payout of $41.55 on slaughter cattle for December.

Surpluses remain in each of the three accounts. There is a $2.5 million surplus in the slaughter cattle account, $23.6 million left over for the feeders and $136.4 million remaining in the cow-calf account, said program director Al Proulx.

Following meetings between government and cattlemen it was agreed all producer contributions will be returned to those who were still signed on at the close of the program in 1993. It will take until at least April before producers receive their money back, said Proulx. A transition program is in the works for 1994.
