An Alberta short-line railway has added another two sections of track to its growing rail company.
CN will transfer its 90 kilometre Hagersville subdivision from Nanticoke to Brantford, Ont. to Raillink by way of a 21-year-lease. Raillink will also acquire CN’s track around Hamilton’s north-end industrial area.
“We are very pleased to add these important railway properties in southern Ontario to our operations,” said Gordon Clanachan, president and CEO of Raillink.
Welcome customers’ business
“We look forward to working with CN to provide customers located on these lines with reliable, safe and efficient rail transportation,” Clanachan said in a news release.

Short rapeseed crop may put China in a bind
Industry thinks China’s rapeseed crop is way smaller than the official government estimate. The country’s canola imports will also be down, so there will be a lot of unmet demand.
The Hagersville deal is expected to be finalized in September and the Hamilton deal in December. These lines handle more than 35,000 carloads of freight a year which is expected to give Raillink a $6 million boost.
This is the second regional rail partnership between the two companies. Last month Raillink announced it intends to acquire a 322 km section of track between Boyle and Fort McMurray in Alberta.
Raillink is in the process of bidding on two Saskatchewan lines between Saskatoon and Prince Albert and North Battleford to Meadow Lake.
It recently became a publicly traded company and operates rail lines in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.
