Alta Genetics Inc. of Balzac, Alta., has bought Independent Breeders Service program and will lease the IBS facility.

IBS is located near Airdrie, Alta., and the bull housing, collection, testing and storage facilities located there will operate under Alta management.

“The Alta custom collection program has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years. This agreement provides the ability to sustain growth and continue to provide a superior standard of client service,” said Alta chief executive officer Cees Hartmans in a news release.

Harry Haney, IBS president and owner, is retiring from day-to-day involvement in the business. Most of the IBS staff will join Alta Genetics and Haney will work with it through the transition.

Sires housed at the Airdrie location will continue to be cared for and collected by the IBS barn and lab staff. This team will work with Alta’s production team located in Balzac.

Alta Genetics operates genetic programs in Canada, the United States, the Netherlands and Brazil and is actively marketing products in 84 countries around the world.
