A northern Alberta manufacturing company hopes to build mobile slaughter and processing plants.
Marcel Mailloux of Triple M Manufacturing in St.
Isadore, Alta., has yet to build a plant, but he envisions three types of facilities.
The slaughter plant, processing and packaging plant, and a retail unit would be separate, but probably housed together in a 15 metre semi trailer.
Depending on the design, he estimated it would cost “less than the average pre-owned combine.”
Company spokesperson Christine St. Laurent said each mobile plant would be built depending on the customer’s requirements.
“We haven’t determined a price yet. It depends on what the customer wants.”
Mailloux said the mobile meat processing units might help small producers or groups of producers sell meat directly to consumers or through other distribution methods.
