CAMROSE, Alta. (Staff) – Alberta’s agriculture department is opening an office in the United States to try to cash in on a share of billions of dollars in agriculture trade, said the province’s agriculture minister.
Walter Paszkowski said the government plans to open the office in Vancouver, Wash., for a two-year trial period.
The U.S. is Alberta’s major agriculture and food market. In 1994, the province exported $1.88 billion to the U.S. Cliff Wulff, director of marketing services with the Alberta agriculture department, has been named to the Washington post. He’s expected to develop markets information and research for Alberta suppliers.
The cost, between $65,000 and $75,000 annually, will come out of the existing agriculture budget.
