Meat processor election
The Saskatchewan Meat Processors’ Association recently elected its executive at the 48th annual annual meeting. Elected officers are: President Jak Schuhmacher of Wilkie; vice-president Thomas Fradette, Radville; past-president Larry Brossart, Shellbrook; executive director Harry Beilhartz, Shellbrook; secretary-treasurer Anne Stables, Regina; and directors Laurie Deneiko, Watrous, Robert Klassen, Medstead and Lloyd Clothier, Vanguard.
Ottenbreit’s Meats of Grayson won the grand aggregate award for the meat competition, as well as the Jim Stables achievement award for overall excellence.
Ottenbreit’s won the non-tumbled smoked boneless ham, tumbled smoked bone-in ham and tumbled smoked boneless ham categories. Bashaw Meats from Bashaw, Alta. won for non-tumbled smoked bone-in ham, deli meat tray and smoked side bacon. Broadview Meat Market of Broadview took first place in the summer sausage and beef jerky categories. Main Street Meats of Wadena won the garlic sausage competition, while Drake Meat Processors of Drake won the smoked linked sausage category. Best booth in the trade show was awarded to Unipac Packaging Products, Ltd., of Edmonton.

FCL executive
The new executive of the board of Federated Co-operatives Ltd. includes: President Vern Leland of Saskatoon, back for his 17th year; first vice-president Ed Klassen of Carman, Man.; vice-presidents Don Russell of Rosetown, Sask. for the Saskatoon region, Vern Pusch of Kipling, Sask. for the Regina region, Gerry Kemp of Innisfail, Alta. for the Calgary region, Mogens Piepgrass of Dawson Creek, B.C. for the Edmonton region and Maureen Robinson of Brentwood Bay, B.C. for the British Columbia region.
Beef council head
The new executive vice-president of the Canadian Beef Breeds Council is Herb McLane. He will be responsible for daily operations of the council which is an industry group of 20,000 purebred beef cattle producers, headquartered in Calgary.
Environmental board
The new executive of the board of AGCare, (Ontario) Agricultural Groups Concerned about Resources and the Environment, includes: chair Jeff Wilson represnting the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association; first vice-chair Bill Allison representing the Ontario Soybean Growers’ Marketing Board; second vice-chair Jim Fischer representing the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association.
