Wheat board advisers

Wilf Harder of Lowe Farm, Man., has been re-elected chair of the Canadian Wheat Board’s advisory committee. John Clair of Radisson, Sask., was elected vice-chair, replacing Art Macklin of Debolt, Alta., who declined to run.

Harder has been a member of the committee since 1986, while Clair was elected in 1990. All 11 farmer members of the committee face re-election this fall.

Zero-till farmer award

Ron White of Lyleton, Man. was awarded the farmer of the year by the Manitoba-North Dakota Zero Tillage Farmers Association. He is a founding director of the Sandy Lands Soil Management Association and was a district chair for Keystone Agricultural Producers.

B.C. cattle council formed

British Columbia has formed a Cattle Industry Development Council to benefit and promote the province’s cattle industry. It replaces the levy-funded Cattle Industry Development Board, but will operate in much the same manner. Members of the council are: chair Dave Merz, Fort Fraser; Lita Salanski, Grasmere; Renee Hetherington-Tapping, Vernon; Joanna Mellor, Duncan; Ted Osborn, Vernon; Stan Van Keulen, Surrey; and John Morrison, Logan Lake.
