Scientist honored

An Agriculture Canada scientist, Constantine Campbell, has been named a fellow of both the American Society of Agronomy and the Society of Soil Science of America at annual meetings held in Cincinnati, Ohio. The fellows program is a restricted achievement to which members are selected as a professional honor. Campbell is a researcher at Ag Canada’s station in Swift Current, Sask.

Man. Charolais executive

The president of the Manitoba Charolais Association is Carman Jackson, of Inglis. New directors are Dan Anderson, Roland, Michael Nykoliation, Virden, Clint Robertson, Amaranth, Evan Smith, Rapid City, and Brian Kruk, Souris. The executive includes president Jackson, first vice-president Bob Munroe, Warren, second vice-president Doug Hunter, Roblin, and secretary-treasurer Darlene Jackson, Inglis.

Wheat grower president

Judy Olson of Garfield, Wash. has been elected president of the National Association of Wheat Growers and is the first woman to hold the position. Olson has served as vice-president and secretary-treasurer with the organization, and on her own farm grows wheat, spring barley and lentils.

Ross Hansen of Genoa, Colo. was elected vice-president and Charles Merja of Sun River, Mont. as secretary-treasurer.

Farmer of the year

Winner of the farmer of the year award presented annually by the Manitoba-North Dakota Zero Tillage Farmers Association is Ron White of Lyleton, Man.

White is one of the founding directors of the Sandy Lands Soil Management Association and a councillor in the R.M. of Edward. He farms 3,600 acres and last year grew hard red and prairie spring wheat, rye, sunflowers, peas, corn and oats.

Eugene Baker of Melita, Man. won the non-farmer of the year award, presented to an agricultural-related person who promotes zero tillage. He is a technician for the Sandy Lands Soil Management Association.
