Farm safety contest
A farm safety innovations contest has been organized by the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, with the first prize of a $1,000 John Deere gift certificate.
Entrants are asked to submit details of their ideas and innovations to make farms safer. Eligible entries include any method of decreasing hazards associated with farm labor, adaptations to farm machines to make them safer and methods of improving health and safety of farmers.
Submissions will be judged based on importance of the problem to be solved, originality, ease of application and overall effectiveness of the solution.

Deadline for entries is June 20. Details are available from rural service centres in Saskatchewan, and entries should be submitted to the CFA at Suite 101, 75 Albert Street, Ottawa, Ont. K1P 5E7.
Pulse president
Doug Halberg is the new president of the Alberta Pulse Growers Commission. At the group’s recent annual meeting, it also added a fifth zone to its representation. Zone 5 covers northeastern Alberta and is represented by Gordon Tuck.
Veggie growers executive
The executive of the Alberta Vegetable Growers Marketing Board has been re-installed by acclamation. Rudy Gregus of Taber continues as chair and Harold Unruh of Vauxhall is vice-chair.
Directors include Dave Matthies of Coaldale, and Ian Wood, Roy Maier, Dale Evanson and Paul Thibodeau, all of Taber.
