Dixon scholars named
The Canadian Simmental Association has presented three $1,000 education scholarships, contributed through the Dr. Allan Dixon Scholarship Fund.
Tanya Beech of Pilot Mound, Man., Jason Charles of Stoughton, Sask., and Maureen Mappin of Byemoor, Alta. each received awards at the association’s annual meeting.
The recipients grew up on cattle farms, were active in 4-H clubs and are members of the Young Canadian Simmental Association.
Replacement parts
An Alberta government publication may help people find obsolete farm equipment parts. The Obsolete or Hard to Locate Repair/Replacement Parts Source was compiled by the Alberta Farm Implement Act Administration. Copies are available from the Farmers’ Advocate Office at #305, 7000 – 113 Street, Edmonton, T6H 5T6, or by phoning 403-427-2188.

Beef on CD ROM
The Ontario Cattlemen’s Association and Canadian Farm Business Management Council, with help from the Ontario agriculture department, has launched an information database on the beef industry.
The CD ROM information includes 200 documents and 800 graphics.
Peter Davis of the cattlemen’s association said the database will enable producers to get quality information in an easy to access and understandable form.
Topics include animal care, meat quality, environmental management, financial and management systems, marketing, nutrition, health and research.
Version one of the information database costs $40. Upgrades to keep the database current will cost $10.
Following the launch of the CD ROM format, the association plans to offer the database on the internet.
