SPI names manager
SPI Marketing Group has named Don Hrapchak as general manager.
Hrapchak has been in the Saskatchewan hog marketing industry since 1973 when he joined the former Hog Marketing Commission as sales manager. He has been acting general manager since Jim Morris was dismissed by the board in May.
4-H judging team chosen
Eight Saskatchewan youths have been chosen as provincial representatives at the international 4-H junior judging competition to be held in Regina during Canadian Western Agribition Nov. 23-30.

Members were chosen based on a provincial competition in Saskatoon last week, in which they had to judge six species of animals, give oral reasons for two classes and complete a written exam. There were 43 competitors from six regions.
The winners are: Jay Bohrson, of Hanley; Gavin Graham, of Lone Rock; Wade Annand, of Melfort; Mark Oddan, of Maidstone; Chyanne Hawkins, of Maymont; Michelle Firday, of Whitewood; Christy Walker, of Choiceland; and Michelle Hagele, of Saskatoon.
Dairy appointments
A Manitoba dairy farmer has been re-appointed vice-chair of the Canadian Dairy Commission.
Louis Balcaen, of La Broquerie, former president of the Dairy Farmers of Canada, is starting his second term in the position.
Guy Jacob, of Lac St-Joseph, Que., has been appointed full-time chair of the commission. He was deputy minister at the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 1989 to 1994.
Dale Tulloch, appointed commissioner, is the former vice-president of the National Dairy Council of Canada. He was responsible for the Food Safety Enhancement Program and the human resources committee.
The dairy commission advises the minister of agriculture and the department of agriculture on matters relating to the dairy industry and develops policies and programs designed to meet the needs of the industry.
