New Angus president
Mabel Hamilton was elected president of the Canadian Aberdeen Angus Association at the association’s recent meeting in Quebec City.
Hamilton is past-president of the Canadian Beef Breeds Council, a former board member of the Alberta Cattle Commission, past-president of the Beef Information Centre, and director of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association.
Hamilton continues to serve as a director of the Canadian Beef Breeds Council and is on the board of the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency. She and her husband Gavin were honored in 1998 as Canadian Cattlemen of the year at the Denver Cattle show in Colorado.

New dairy president
Dairy Farmers of Canada, which represents 23,000 milk producers, elected John Core as its new president recently.
Core, a milk producer from Wyoming, Ont., farms with his two brothers on a 600 acre farm, on which they grow cash crops and milk 79 Holsteins.
Core is chair of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario, a position he has held since 1990. He is on the Canadian Milk Supply Management Committee and is a past director of the Ontario Dairy Herd Improvement Corporation.
Before farming, Core earned bachelor and master of science degrees from the University of Guelph in Ontario and was a lecturer at Ridgetown College of Agricultural Technology from 1971-1975.
