New dairy president
A new president, milk producer Claude Rivard from Causapscal, Que., was elected by Dairy Farmers of Canada at its recent annual meeting in St. John’s, Nfld.
Rivard, president of the Quebec Milk Producers’ Association since 1988 and an executive member of the DFC, replaces Ontario dairy farmer Peter Oosterhoff.
Barron Blois of Kennetcook, N.S., and John Core of Wyoming, Ont., were elected first and second vice-presidents.
At the annual meeting, members approved an $8-million increase, to $38 million in spending next year on promotion and advertising of dairy products in Canada.

Yorkton Exhibition hires
Richard Akrainec has been appointed general manager of the Yorkton Exhibition in Yorkton, Sask. He is a former operations co-ordinator for the provincial exhibition of Manitoba in Brandon.
The Yorkton Exhibition hosts three main events: the Farm ‘N’ Leisure Show in April, the Yorkton Exhibition in July and Harvest Showdown in November. It also hosts an all-breed bull sale in March.
New Hereford president
The Canadian Hereford Association has elected Mike Mueller of Warner, Alta., as its new president.
Mueller operates a grain and livestock enterprise along with his brothers and parents. He has been active in provincial and national Hereford organizations and has also been a member of livestock organizations, a water association and the Lethbridge and District Stock Show Committee.
