Honorary president
The Yorkton Exhibition has named Helen Norman as its honorary president for 1997. Norman has been involved with the exhibition for more than 50 years, primarily through the Ladies Auxiliary.
She is an honorary life member of the Yorkton Exhibition Association and was an active member until three years ago. She will take part in several events in 1997, including the annual summer fair parade on July 5.
The honorary president title is awarded to individuals who make an “outstanding volunteer contribution to the many aspects of exhibition events,” says the association.

Handling manure
The latest information on manure handling technology is available through a series of research papers published by the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute.
Among the publications are A Guide to Swine Manure Management Methods and A Guide to Pipeline Manure Injection Systems.

New vice-president
Peter Marshall is the new vice-president for bulk commodities with CN Rail. His appointment was announced in mid-May by CN president Paul Tellier.
Marshall will be responsible for the direction of the company’s bulk commodities business unit which involves coal, sulfur, fertilizer, grain and grain products.
He is a former member of senior management with Imperial Oil.
Royal visit
Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, will visit areas of Manitoba stricken this spring by flooding. His visit is scheduled June 28, when he will see some affected communities and meet with volunteers and families who are rebuilding after the flood.
Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth are in Canada from June 23 to July 1, and are also visiting Newfoundland and Ontario.
Flood donations
For the second time this spring, Cargill Limited and its employees have contributed to the Red Cross Manitoba Flood Appeal.
Through a matching contribution, Cargill has donated $20,764 to the Red Cross, bringing the company’s total donation to more than $50,000 for flood relief.
In April, Cargill and Saskferco donated $30,000 to the cause, and Cargill also offered to match any employee contributions.
Winning auctioneers
Sheldon Nicholson, an auctioneer at Heartland Livestock Services in Brandon, Man., will compete in the world livestock auctioneer championships in Fort Pierre, South Dakota, on June 27.
He will be among 30 semi-finalists who were chosen in preliminary rounds of competition, and one of only three Canadians participating.
The other Canadians competing are Brad Stenberg, of Regina, and Chance Martin, of Blackfalds, Alta.
