SASKATOON – Agriculture businesses figure prominently in this year’s ABEX awards. Sponsored by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, the ABEX awards recognize the best in Saskatchewan business.
Selection committee chair Dan Rollins said the 12-year-old awards are “one of the few opportunities that Saskatchewan businesses get to celebrate their successes.”
Of the companies nominated, nine were agriculture-based.
Dutch Industries Ltd. of Regina was nominated in the physical environment category for its environmentally aware products and again nominated in the new Saskat-chewan products category.

The Dutch ground-driven swath roller will be up against AgrEvo Canada Inc. and NORAC Systems International. AgrEvo began marketing the first herbicide-resistant canola seed and NORAC, with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, came up with a mobile grain pickup, weighing and grading system.
Investment category
Dwayne Enterprises Ltd. of Melfort was nominated in the investment category for investing so it could produce hopper bottom cones for grain bins.
The Brandt Industries Ag Products Division in Regina and Highline Manufacturing of Vonda were both nominated in the marketing category.
Nominated in the exports category were Grey Owl Marketing Ltd. of Prince Albert for increasing its exports of wild rice, Precision Metal Fabricating Ltd. of Rosetown for exporting more combine pick-ups, and Walker Seed Ltd. of Star City for its export of special crops and seed.
Other businesses nominated were Mumby Manufacturing, Off The Wall Productions, Cogema Resources, CES – Conservation Energy Systems, Kitsaki Development Corporation, Saskferco Products, Lashburn Town and Country Golf Course, Main Street Meats, Precision Profiles Plus, West Wind Group of Companies, Mistik Management, Philip Environmental, Cameco Corporation, Parkland Ambulance Care, Pirate Drilling, The Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, Peak Manufacturing, Shuttle Craft International, Twinpak Inc., Jim Scarf Holdings, N. Yanke Transfer, Schneider’s Popcorn Parties, Houle Enterprises, Nor-Sask Builders Supplies, Process Combustion Systems, and Canpotex Ltd.
The awards will be given out Oct. 28 in Saskatoon.
