MANITOBA

East

  • Harvest of fall cereals and early barley underway. Swathing of early canola and spring cereals started.
  • Rapid crop development due to high temperatures and lack of rain.
  • Pastures drying up, second cut hay coming off.

Central

Interlake

  • Winter cereal harvest underway. Some spring crop swathing started.
  • Timothy harvest started.
  • Pastures are good, but need rain. Second cut hay suffering dry conditions.

West

  • Winter cereals harvest underway. Spring seeded crops maturing rapidly in heat. High moisture levels limit plant heat stress.
  • Timothy harvest started.
  • Pastures and second cut alfalfa could benefit from rain.

SASKATCHEWAN

South

  • Spring cereals and canola ripening rapidly. Peas and lentils ripening with swathing and desiccation spraying underway. Winter cereals harvest started.
  • High temperatures and drought reduced yields in early harvested crops.
  • Diamondback moth expanding and bertha threshold levels reached in many areas. Wheat stem sawfly observed.
  • Pastures under drought pressure.

Central

  • High temperatures advancing most crops rapidly and reducing yield potential.
  • Diamondback, bertha and aphids at threshold levels in some areas.
  • Pastures are good and second cut alfalfa haying underway.

West

  • Heat wave has reduced crop yield potential. Crops are advancing rapidly with the high temperatures. Barley, pea, lentil and winter cereal harvest underway.
  • Severe hail reported in some areas.
  • Diamondback, bertha and grasshoppers sprayed.
  • Pastures good and second cut haying underway.

North

  • Heat wave and moisture stress rapidly advanced crops and reduced yield potential.
  • Pea and winter cereal harvest underway.
  • Bertha armyworm variable.
  • Pastures in good condition, second haying is underway.

ALBERTA

South

  • Hot, dry conditions hurting yield potential. Winter cereal harvest complete. Barley harvest underway.
  • Insect damage less than expected. Wheat stem sawfly seen.
  • Pasture burning up in heat. Irrigated crops and hay in good condition.

Central

  • High temperatures rapidly advancing crops. Scattered rain helped some crops and pastures. Barley ripening and field pea harvest started.
  • Pastures are very good to excellent. Second cut haying underway, but showing effects of heat stress.

North

  • Hot and dry conditions stress some crops.
  • Bertha armyworm populations variable.
  • Pastures are very good and second cut haying started.

Peace River

  • Crop condition good where rains fell. Heat is causing rapid advancement of crops.
  • Bertha armyworm and lygus bug variable.
  • Pastures in good condition and first cut hay complete, fescue being swathed and silaging underway.
