SASKATCHEWAN
Northeast
- Snow and rain have delayed harvest.
- Peas are 85 percent complete, as are fall rye and lentils.
- Canola is 60 percent threshed while cereals lag behind at 35-50 percent complete.
- Tough grain is going into storage.
East-central and southeast
- Harvest complete in most areas with 20 percent of flax, 10 percent of barley and five percent of wheat and canola outstanding.
- Quality is good overall with wheat grading No. 2 or 3.
- About half of malt barley samples are being selected.
- Flax and canola are in top condition.
- Wheat yields are 45-60 bu. per acre;
barley 70-90; peas 35-45; flax 25-35;
canola 25-50; and oats 70-90.
West-central and southwest
- Rapid progress over the past week with harvest 95 percent complete in all crops in the southern region.
- Cereals entering storage tough.
- North of Saskatoon wheat is 70 percent combined; flax is 30 percent harvested.
- Pastures are seeing little regrowth and appear stressed.
Northwest
- Harvest is 50-60 percent complete with 70 percent of wheat done.
- Canola harvest is behind due to moisture conditions slowing progress, but it is nearing 60 percent complete.
- Barley is 50 percent harvested.
- Crops are entering storage in tough condition.
ALBERTA
Peace
- Good progress with 50-60 percent of harvest complete.
- North Peace near Fahler and Fairview ahead of other areas.
- Swaths slow to cure.
- Some green canola seed where August frosts touched the crops.
- Yields reported strong to excellent, but quality has suffered.
Northeast
- Rapid progress with barley harvest nearly complete.
- Canola is 80 percent complete with wheat 60-80 percent harvested.
- Near Lloydminster wheat crops are
60-80 percent harvested; canola 60 percent and barley 55 percent done.
- Very strong yields reported throughout with extreme canola yields of more than 80 bu. per acre reported.
Central
- Variable harvest conditions due to rain showers and snow.
- West of Highway 2 wheat is 60-80 percent complete; barley 50-80; canola 40-60 percent done. East of Highway 2 harvest is nearly complete. Yields excellent, but quality has suffered from moisture damage.
- Damp crop in storage.
South
- East of Highway 2 harvest is nearly complete. West of Highway 2 around
Vulcan, Magrath and Blackie, crops are 50-70 percent complete.
- Crop entering storage tough.
- Pastures good to excellent.
