ALBERTA

  • Combining of winter wheat and barley is under way around Lethbridge.
  • Hailstorms hit Pincher Creek-Lethbridge, causing a range of damage.
  • Head breaks are reported in mature barley from high winds.
  • Pastures are drying out.
  • Hailstorms hit Strathmore, where peas are being desiccated and combining has started.
  • Vulcan-Strathmore will swath canola within the week.
  • Grasshoppers and wheatstem sawfly are reported.
  • Canola has finished flowering around Lacombe-Red Deer, where large cereal silage yields are reported.

  • Ascochyta is reported in peas and sclerotinia in barley at Coronation. Swathing has started.
  • Good yields of feed crops are reported.

  • Rain came to the dry north Peace region, where cereal crops are expected to be average. Barley is heading out, canola is finished blossoming and peas are turning.
  • Pastures in the north are in poor shape.

SASKATCHEWAN

  • Good moisture is reported in Eastend-Frontier.
  • Early-seeded spring crops are doing well.
  • Disease is on the increase in pulses due to rain.
  • Pastures are in excellent shape.
  • Ascochyta is reported in chickpeas.
  • Cereals are filling and starting to turn at Regina.
  • Pastures are in good shape and the first cut of hay is completed.
  • Peas look excellent; canaryseed and flax are flowering and filling in Regina region.
  • Grasshopper numbers are increasing.
  • More heat is needed for crops.
  • Excellent conditions are reported at Wadena-Elfros, where wheat is expected to yield 65 bushels an acre.
  • Canaryseed has some disease and aphids are reported in barley. Canola is seven to 10 days behind.
  • Pastures, hay lands are excellent.

MANITOBA

  • Sclerotinia evident in early seeded fields.
  • Winter wheat has been desiccated at Brandon-Neepawa, with crops looking excellent.
  • Canola looks good but is turning white on sandy soils.
  • Fusarium is reported in wetter areas.
  • Spotty showers and hail reported.
  • Cool nights and morning dew have helped maintain good pastures.
  • Rain is needed to finish the crops.
  • Winter wheat will be harvested this week, followed by barley.
  • Flea beetles were seen in outside edges of canola fields. High numbers are predicted for next year.
