MANITOBA

  • Crops look good but are late. Harvest will be delayed and concern is mounting about damage from early frost.
  • Canola is in full bloom around Brandon.
  • Canaryseed and wheat have finished flowering with some disease seen on flag leaves.
  • Canola stages range from bolting to blooming, with the crop two to three weeks behind.
  • Lodging in cereals means good yields are likely.
  • Some chlorosis has been reported in beans.

SASKATCHEWAN

ALBERTA

  • Canola was blasted by the heat around Peace River, where yields are expected to be below average.
  • Peas are under water in some locations.
  • Grande Prairie area needs heat but pastures are perking up.
  • Edmonton and area saw more than 12 millimetres of rain in two days.
  • Canola is blooming and pods are filling, with wheat and barley heading out.
  • First cut hay yields are low.
  • Crops in full bloom around Red Deer.
  • Heat is blasting canola at Castor. Yields are expected to be below average throughout much of eastern Alberta.
  • Crops strong around Strathmore.
  • Haying is completed in some areas with strong yields reported. Quality deteriorated slightly due to moisture.
  • Silage harvesting is under way in the southwest, with winter cereals two weeks away from harvest.
  • Potatoes are blooming around Lethbridge and Taber and corn is standing thigh to chest high.
  • Canola in the south is fully podded and fields look strong.
  • Second cut of hay is looking good.
  • Increased numbers of lygus bugs reported in canola in southern Alberta.
