Mosquito control funding

The Saskatchewan government has announced $1.1 million in one-time funding to help municipalities control mosquitoes. The funding is separate from the West Nile virus program administered by the health ministry.Municipal affairs minister Jeremy Harrison said the wet spring has provided ideal habitat for mosquitoes, and municipalities may have a difficult time keeping on top of mosquito control efforts. The government will provide up to $1.10 per capita to supplement municipalities that already have mosquito control programs. Rural and urban municipalities often work together in these cases.Next year, municipalities are expected to pay the full cost of their control programs.
