Two-time winner of King of Canola Challenge
Krywy Farms of Danbury, Sask., has been crowned King of Canola for the second straight year, achieving a yield of 78.19 bushels per acre.
Seven producers participated in the 2009 challenge, which is sponsored by Hudye Soil Services.
Three producers recorded yields
in the high 60 bu. per acre range and the other three were in the high
50 bu. per acre range.
Producers help feed world
Five producers from Norquay, Sask., have helped donate more than $116,000 to an international food aid project.

The producers presented a $23,205.75 cheque last month to the Kernels of Hope Program, which is affiliated with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
The Canadian International Development Agency matches donations to the foodgrains bank four to one. Money will fund food aid projects and buy seed and farming tools in southern Sudan.
Krywy Farms, Leis Farms, LTS Grain Farms, Steven Hahachewsky, and Hudye Farms participated in the project organized by Hudye Soil Services.
Each producer donated 10 acres of a crop of their choice. It’s hoped the program will grow to involve more producers and acres.
New CEO named
Canterra Seeds recently named David Hansen as its chief executive officer. He has more than 30 years of seed and agribusiness experience and served as the north Asia pacific regional manager for Agrotain International.
2009 4-H hall of fame inductees announced
Alberta’s 4-H program has inducted Melvin Clark and Ellen Bonde into the 4-H Hall of Fame for their community leadership and dedication to Alberta’s youth.
Clark has been in a leadership role for more than 44 years in the Sturgeon 4-H District and continues to be an active leader.
Bonde, who sits on the Alberta 4-H Council, has been involved in the Rocky District for more than 31 years and is the driving force behind the foreign exchanges to Japan, Finland, South Korea and Taiwan.
Business council selection
Liz Robertson, executive director of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors, has been elected to the national board of the Canadian Farm Business Management Council.
CFBMC provides farmers with farm business management tools while CAFA advises them on how best to use available resources.
