Summer Intern Positions

Candidates have until Dec. 11 to apply for two four-month summer intern positions at Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers.

The organization is looking for interns in agronomy research, as well as agronomy engagement.

The agronomy research position will assist with the establishment, maintenance and harvest of field research plots and on-farm trials.

The job entails assisting with research plot activities including data organization, crop monitoring, preparation for field events, and communications with farmers and stakeholders.

The purpose is to help establish research and further knowledge of pulse and soybean agronomy practices in Manitoba.

Agronomy engagement will engage and inform industry partners, stakeholders and farmers about the organization’s new activities and initiatives.

Activities include communications and promotion with a wide range of industry personal and the public to increase awareness of research and production programs.

Candidates may be in their second to fourth year of an agricultural degree or diploma program preferably in the area of agronomy or agro-ecology.

Scholarship Recognizes Armed Forces

Eighteen new recipients received the Saskatchewan Scholarship of Honour recently.

The scholarship is designed for returning soldiers, and the spouses and children of injured or fallen members of Canada’s Armed Forces.

It provides a one-time award of $5,000 toward post-secondary education. A total of $735,000 has been awarded to 147 scholarships since starting in 2009.

Eligible candidates must be current or former Saskatchewan residents and must have served in the Canadian Forces after Jan. 2001. Spouses and children of permanently disabled or deceased individuals may also be eligible.

Beef Producers Election

Voter turnout was generally high for the Alberta Beef Producer elections, which took place during meetings held across Alberta in October and November.

Zones three, four, five, six and eight had elections, with the remaining four zones selecting delegates by acclamation.

Alberta Beef Producers works for the promotion, marketing and sustainability of the beef industry.
