Other federal facilities in the Atlantic region will receive $1.3 million to upgrade exhaust systems and repair roofs and roads.

Co-op contributes to wildfire relief efforts

Federated Co-operatives Ltd. recently volunteered employees to help at evacuee centres in Saskatoon in an effort to help wildfire relief efforts in the province.

This was in addition to the $200,000 the company committed to the Canadian Red Cross to provide training and buy supplies to prepare for emergencies.

FCL employees helped the Red Cross with a variety of tasks at the evacuee centres.

Most displaced residents have since returned to their communities.

Volunteers worked in four-hour shifts to stock supplies, hand out personal services items, help with recreational activities, load and unload trucks and perform general clean-up. Several local Co-ops close to the wildfires heavily contributed to the relief efforts.

Prince Albert Co-op donated bottled water, diapers and other supplies for the Red Cross to provide to displaced residents at its Prince Albert centre.

The Co-op Food Store in La Ronge helped military and firefighting crews with fuel and supplies.

Fire department gets help

Delisle Agencies Ltd. gave the Delisle and District Fire and Rescue Department a new tool to help fight fires.

Referred to as the fire extinguisher grenade, the dry sprinkler powder aerosol (DSPA-5) is a rapid intervention tool used to suppress or slow a structure fire until further resources can be brought into action.

Trade Centre Investment

The International Trade Centre planned for Regina is receiving $22 million from the federal and provincial governments.

It’s hoped the 150,000 sq. foot multipurpose facility will attract and host large events that benefit trade and agri-business in Saskatchewan.

The venue is expected to draw more international visitors to Canadian Western Agribition and Canada’s Farm Progress Show.

It is also expected to attract other large events such as consumer trade shows and will connect existing buildings on the grounds, making it one of the largest interconnected event facilities in North America.

Construction will start in November and take about two years.
