Weed website launched
The Western Grains Research Foundation has launched Prairieweeds.com, an online platform designed to support the Prairie Weed Monitoring Network through the Integrated Crop Agronomy Cluster.
Led by Charles Geddes and Julia Leeson from Agriculture Canada, the PWMN is intended to implement an all-inclusive weed biovigilance strategy across the Prairies. It is a co-ordinated collaboration among federal, provincial and academic weed science experts.

Saskatchewan RM declines feedlot application, cites bylaws
Already facing some community pushback, a proposed 2,000-head cattle feedlot south of Swift Current, Sask., has been rejected for a municipal permit, partly over zoning concerns about the minimum distance from a residence.
The PWMN will build on the existing models of the Prairie Pest Monitoring Network and Prairie Crop Disease Monitoring Network and will formalize and co-ordinate weed awareness, detection/identification and assessment activities for the Prairie region.
Funding comes the WGRF, Alberta Grains, Alberta Canola, SaskCanola, the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, the Manitoba Crop Alliance, Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers, the Manitoba Canola Growers Association, the Prairie Oat Growers Association and Agriculture Canada through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership’s AgriScience Program – Clusters Component.
