New canaryseed management announced

Kevin Hursh, executive director of the Canary Seed Development Commission of Saskatchewan, is stepping down from the position after 15 years.

As well, Adele Buettner is moving from general manager to culinary and food development director, focusing on helping advance canaryseed for food use, which is being branded by its Spanish name, alpiste.

Darren Yungmann, a farmer from the St. Gregor area, has resigned as chair and will become executive director.

Directors have the option of filling the board vacancy via appointment.

Sask. producers receive OYF award

Outstanding Young Farmer alumni Rana and Brett Meinert are the 2023 recipients of the OYF program’s W.R. Motherwell Award.

The grain farmers from Shaunavon, Sask., were recognized as Saskatchewan’s Outstanding Young Farmers in 1987. Since then, they have been active in all OYF events in the region and nationally.

The award is presented annually to an individual or couple who demonstrate excellence in leadership and dedication to the OYF program and Canadian agriculture.
