Agricultural partnership
The City of Richmond, B.C., parks department was recognized with the Kwantlen Polytechnic University 2023 Community Impact Award for its support of the university’s agriculture and food systems programs.
The partnership combines hands-on learning with holistic food system awareness. It promotes urban agriculture, advancing food security and creating new opportunities for innovation.
The annual award recognizes individuals and organizations who are strong partners of KPU and make a difference in regional communities of relevance to the university.
The KPU Farm is operated by the university’s department of sustainable agriculture and is located on Richmond’s Garden City Lands. The farm grows crops on eight acres of organic farmland, and includes a solar-heated dome greenhouse, three moveable high tunnels, beetle banks for beneficial insect habitat, and an innovative approach to carbon-negative farming at the edge of a former peat bog.

With seeding underway across the Prairies, biweekly updates are included with the progress report.
