Lakeland included in research top 50
Lakeland College ranks 33rd on Canada’s top 50 research colleges list in the 2022 rankings compiled by Research InfoSource Inc.
Post-secondary institutions were analyzed for research income, funding and partnerships, as well as the number of faculty and students involved in research in 2020-21.
Lakeland sits in second place in the annual survey for college research income growth. Its research income grew 251.8 percent in 2020-21.
The college ranks 19th in the area of research intensity funding per researcher.

In the 2020-21 fiscal year, Lakeland secured $3.05 million in sponsored research income through collaborations with government, industry and post-secondary partners.

Organic waste funded in rural B.C.
The federal government is spending about $832,000 on research and development of small, portable and low-cost conversion systems for organic waste systems in rural communities of British Columbia.
Safi Enterprises, in partnership with the University of British Columbia, is exploring the feasibility of producing carbon-based fertilizer blends from crop residues that can be used on farms.
Communities can convert the residue into fertilizer blends and other carbon-based products, which can provide additional income.
