Buy Local funds help North Cariboo program grow
The North Cariboo Farm Country — Grown For You campaign has received $22,000 from the B.C. government’s Buy Local Program.
The campaign is led by the Quesnel Community and Economic Development Corp. and the North Cariboo Agricultural Marketing Association.
The campaign includes plans for the promotion of North Cariboo-grown products and farm-based services through signs and banners, product packaging, in-store promotional materials and an upgraded website.
It will promote more than 50 products produced in the North Cariboo.

Show band world champions
The Calgary Stampede Showband is a four time world champion after successfully defending its title at the World Association of Marching Showbands Championship in Chiba, Japan.
Band members performed alongside many of the world’s top marching ensembles before spectators and a panel of judges. The Stampede Showband was crowned champion with a score of 94.94.

Manitoba Beef Producer bursary recipients
Manitoba Beef Producers has selected four rural Manitoba students as recipients of the 2013 MBP bursary.
Each bursary winner receives $500 toward their studies. The students are children of active beef producers or are active beef producers themselves.
They were required to submit a short essay on what the beef industry means to their family, their community and Manitoba.
The recipients were Cassie Scott from Boissevain, Sydney Sprenger of Alexander, Raina Syrnyk of Ethelbert, and Tyler Workman, from Minto.

$100 for 100 years
As part of 4-H’s centennial, anyone who has been affiliated with the program, or worked with 4-H graduates is encouraged to donate $100 for 100 years.
Former 4-Hers who have not made a charitable donation can take advantage of the First Time Donor’s Super Credit recently announced by the federal government.
The donor’s super credit gives an extra 25 percent credit when claiming charitable donation tax credit.
This means a 40 percent credit for donations of $200 or less, and a 54 percent credit for the portion of donations that are over $200 up to $1,000.

Angus Cook-Off winners
The Canadian Junior Angus Association has chosen the winners of the Angus Cook-off competition for Showdown 2013.
Showdown is a yearly summer cattle show organized by the association, made up of a group of Angus enthusiasts under the age of 21.
It moves to provinces throughout the country every July. This year, 59 participants took part in Showdown in Armstrong, B.C.
Contestants were evaluated on their ability to work as a team to prepare an Angus-based dish.
They were provided two steaks and a gas barbecue, as well as utensils. Participants used their own spices and marinades, as well as garnishes to present their Angus beef dish.
The overall first place team was awarded to Alberta’s Team Pladiators with members consisting of Stacey and Becky Domolewski of Taber, Kaitlynn Bolduc of Stavely, Cayley Peltzer of Rosemary, and Chad Lorenz of Markerville.
