Billboard campaign

The Farm Animal Council of Saskatchewan says it is drawing good reviews for a billboard campaign that is designed to educate urban children about responsible animal care and how food is produced.

Twenty-three billboards were consigned between May 26 and June 23 in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Yorkton and Moose Jaw under the theme: on our farms/ranches we care.

“We have a lot of kids’ movies such as Chicken Run showing the evil farmers and how the animals don’t want to be there and that is not how it is,” producer Kaylin Fehr said in a news release.

Fehr was shown on a billboard with her brothers Vincent and Gerard at the family farm near Hague, Sask.

The FACS campaign is sponsored by the Saskatchewan agriculture ministry, Saskatchewan Egg Producers, North American Equine Ranching Information Council, Saskatchewan Bison Association, Dairy Farmers of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Chicken Industry Development Fund.

WIT invests in ethanol

Weyburn Inland Terminal has acquired four million Class A common shares of an ethanol plant in Weyburn, Sask.

The deal gives WIT ownership of 55.5 percent of NorAmera BioEnergy Corp.’s outstanding shares. Golden Opportunities Fund will own 42.25 percent and 2.25 percent will be held by management as part of a restructured partnership.

“The investment by WIT into NorAmera is a strong vote of confidence of the opportunity that we have believed in from the outset,” said Doug Banzet, chief financial officer and director of Golden Opportunities.
