Stock Growers official
Chad MacPherson is the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association’s (SSGA) new general manager.
MacPherson is the Moose Jaw River Watershed Stewards Inc.’s former stewardship co-ordinator. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Regina and is an articling agrologist.
MacPherson grew up on a mixed farm near McLean, Sask. He was the first Source Water Protection Plan co-ordinator in Saskatchewan and brings to the SSGA his experience in environmental stewardship, landowner management practices and grazing plans.

Dairy cattle award
The Canadian Dairy Network has awarded Doug Blair its Dairy Cattle Improvement Industry Distinction Award.
Blair created Western Breeders Service in Alberta and later helped develop Alta Genetics Inc., an international network and breeding program.
The award recognizes individuals or organizations who have contributed to the dairy genetics industry.
Also receiving the award is Robert Chicoine, a longtime leader with CIAQ, Quebec’s artificial insemination centre, and later Semex
Alliance.
Guide for cow-calf owners
Alberta Agriculture has released the first edition of Managing a Cow-Calf Business: An Essential Guide.
The 218 page manual, which includes a reference section and CD, is designed for beginners and experienced cow-calf producers.
Modules include big picture management, genetics, nutrition, reproduction, herd health, grazing management, environmental best management practices, marketing, finance and economics, human resource management, cattle handling and feeding management and getting started.
