Water project funding

A Canada-Alberta Farm Water Program announced earlier this year will provide $9.6 million in new funding to help Alberta producers develop water supplies for livestock, greenhouse, fish and market garden production and other agricultural water uses.

Projects eligible under the two-year program must be completed before Dec. 3. Farmers can apply to be reimbursed for one-third of on-farm water supply project costs, up to a maximum of $5,000.

Eligible farmers must produce at least $10,000 worth of farm commodities annually and file Alberta income tax returns. Common projects include wells, dugouts, dams and pasture pipelines. For more information, call 780-422-9167 or toll free at 310-0000. Application packages are also available at MLA offices and on the Alberta Agriculture website.

Food research money

Saskatchewan Agriculture is accepting letters of intent for research funding under the Agriculture Development Fund.

The fund will consider proposals related to any aspect of agriculture, but emphasis will be placed on food quality and safety, food processing and bioprocessing, livestock feeding, reducing agricultural production risks, the development of new crop varieties and the development of comprehensive farming systems that protect and enhance the land.

Letters of intent will be accepted until April 15. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a full proposal before Sept. 1.

Letter of intent forms are available at www.arb.gov.sk.ca or through the links on the Saskatchewan Agriculture website at www.agr.gov.sk.ca.

Applicants can call 787-5929 or e-mail ARBonline@agr.gov.sk.ca.
