Volunteers recognized

Oct. 18 is the nomination deadline for this year’s Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The medal is open to current or former long-term residents of Saskatchewan, with the exception of presently serving members of Parliament and the provincial legislature and the judiciary. Posthumous nominations are not accepted.

Recipients receive their medals in a spring ceremony from Saskatchewan’s lieutenant governor.

New rural council leader

Terry Hayward is the new executive director of the Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council. He will be responsible for the leadership and management of MRAC, implement the council’s strategic plan and cultivate partnerships among industry stakeholders.

Before joining MRAC, Hayward was executive director of the National Farm Products Council in Ottawa. He holds a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Manitoba and has served as a Canadian diplomat in New Zealand and the United States.

Hayward replaces outgoing director Bob Hoffman, who retired from MRAC after working with the council for more than a decade.

Ag Hall of Fame

The Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for 2007 for individuals who have made a significant contribution to agriculture and their community.

Information and nomination forms are available from Pat Bailey, Hall of Fame office manager, at 1129 Queens Ave., Brandon, R7A 1L9. Information is also available by calling 204-728-3736 or by sending an e-mail to agrifame@mts.net.

Deadline for nominations is Oct. 31.

Performance Plants VP

Performance Plants Inc. has named Malcolm Devine vice-president of crop development and commercialization.

Before joining Performance Plants Inc., Devine was a research director at the National Research Council’s Plant Biotechnology Institute in Saskatoon. He has also worked in Canada and Europe with major agriculture companies including Aventis and Bayer Crop Science and has worked as a professor and department head in the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan.

Devine completed his PhD in weed science at the University of Guelph in Ontario.

New Holland VP

David Clarke has been named vice-president of New Holland’s agricultural business operations in North America. In his new position, Clarke will oversee the sales, marketing and support functions of New Holland agricultural products.

Clarke has worked as vice-president of New Holland’s global product marketing division and as vice-president of marketing at NACCO Material Handling Group. He has 20 years of experience with PACCAR Inc., a manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks.

Clarke earned his MBA from the University of Washington. He will work in New Holland’s headquarters in New Holland, Pennsylvania.
