New dean
Darwin Eckstrom has been named the new dean of rural development at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
He will start his new role in early September, replacing John Campbell, who retired at the end of June.
Eckstrom, a former teacher and sports coach, has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education. He has held various high-ranking positions with the College of Alberta School Superintendents and was co-chair of the Campus Alberta Symposium and chair of the Northwest Regional Learning Consortium.

As the dean of rural development, Eckstrom will provide guidance and leadership to NAIT’s campuses in Fairview, Grande Prairie, Peace River and High Level. He will also oversee the college’s equine training programs.
Biotech directory
Ag-West Bio has produced an on-line directory of companies and organizations associated with Saskatchewan’s biotechnology industry.
The Saskatchewan Solutions directory, which lists academics and Saskatchewan businesses, is organized by sectors and contains contact information, a brief synopsis of each entry and a direct link to each organization’s website. The directory will maintain a list of stakeholders in the saskatchewan biotech industry. The directory can be viewed on-line at www.agwest.sk.ca/directory/directory_index.html.
Conservation award
Ducks Unlimited Canada and Saskatchewan’s lieutenant governor are accepting applications for the lieutenant governor’s Greenwing Conservation Award.
The annual award recognizes individuals or groups who have demonstrated leadership or volunteerism in a project or activity that promotes public awareness of wetland conservation in Saskatchewan. Nominations must be forwarded by mail, to Ducks Unlimited Canada, Box 4465, Regina, SK S4P 3W7 or by e-mail to du_regina@ducks.ca by Sept. 1.

New board member
W. T. (Terry) Wright, has been appointed to the board of directors of WCE Holdings Inc., which also serves as the board of the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange.
Wright has practiced law in Manitoba since 1971 and has extensive corporate and securities legal experience.
He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Manitoba.
Prior to joining Pitbaldo LLP as counsel, Wright worked in the financial services sector as senior vice-president, general counsel and secretary of IGM Financial Inc.
During his tenure in the financial services sector, he was chair of the board of the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada and Investments Funds Institute of Canada.
He has also served as a director of the Centre for the Financial Services Ombudsnetwork, the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments and the Canadian Payments System.
