Animal care board
The Alberta Farm Animal Care Association board has re-elected chicken producer David Hyink of Ponoka as its chair.
Duane Landals of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association is vice-chair. He is registrar for the vet association and has been a rural practitioner for more than 25 years with a practice at Morinville.
Pork producer Ken Jackson from Castor is the third executive member.The Alberta Auction Markets Association has become a permanent board member and the Alberta Equestrian Federation joined as a director-at-large.

Scholarship available
The Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum has extended its application deadline for post-secondary scholarships to the end of June. The scholarships are sponsored by the Canadian Wheat Board and offered to students who are attending or have attended a post-secondary institution and who have enrolled in an agriculture-related course. Up to $4,000 in scholarship money is available in each of the three prairie provinces.

New conservation official
Peter Woloshyn is the chief executive officer of Alberta’s Natural Resources Conservation Board effective May 23.
Woloshyn has been with Alberta Agriculture for 22 years and for two years with the Agricultural Financial Services Corp. He is currently director of the agricultural research division overseeing Alberta’s livestock and crop research programs. He has a master’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Alberta.
The NRCB administers the agricultural Operations Practices Act and it reviews proposed developments that affect Alberta’s non-energy natural resources.
