Fruit disease program
The Prairie Fruit Growers Association, the Saskatchewan Fruit Growers Association and the Fruit Growers Society of Alberta are launching a web-based disease control program to minimize losses caused by common berry diseases such as entomosporium leaf and berry spot.
The two-year program invites prairie farmers to use a forecast model to help them identify the optimal timing of harvest and fungicide application.
To help develop the program, 100 saskatoon producers are being sought from the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Final results will be made available to all members of provincial industry associations.
Cash contributions for the initiative totalling $104,900 have been supplied by the three industry councils that manage Agriculture Canada’s advancing Canadian agriculture and agri-food program in their respective provinces.
