Agrium on top employer list

Agrium Inc. of Calgary has been named one of Canada’s top 100 employers by Maclean’s magazine.

The list is considered the gold standard for best practices in recruitment and retention.

To earn a spot on the list, 1,200 participating companies were evaluated in seven areas: physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; and training and skills development.

Companies were also assessed on their level of community involvement.

Funding extended

Agriculture Canada has extended its funding for the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development in Saskatchewan program. Funding was due to expire this March but will now be extended until March 31, 2007.

CARDS encourages projects that advance the agriculture and food sectors and has six program areas: industry and rural resource development; business development activities; strategic initiatives; capital equipment purchases; value-added development and environmental stewardship.

The program has provided more than $20 million to more than 840 projects in Saskatchewan since its inception in 1995. In addition to CARDS, funding is also available through Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Saskatchewan, which is also funded through Agriculture Canada.

The successor to CARDS will help implement new projects that benefit Saskatchewan’s production and processing sectors.
