Manitoba Pork awards presented
Manitoba Pork’s 53rd annual general meeting and banquet honoured this year’s award recipients.
Tom Dooley, a partner at MLT Aikins LLP, received a 2018 Pork Industry Award in recognition of his contributions to the hog sector as legal counsel to Manitoba Pork for more than 19 years.
He has also represented several agricultural marketing boards, non-profit organizations, co-operatives and charities over the past 48 years.
The Manitoba Livestock Manure Management Initiative received a 2018 Pork Industry Award in recognition of its work researching issues related to livestock manure. The initiative has managed and co-ordinated more than 90 research projects, amounting to an almost $9 million investment over the past 20 years.

As well, the organization donated one tonne of pork sausage to Samaritan House Ministries in Brandon.
Farmer’s advocate publishes book
The Alberta Farmer’s Advocate Office has created a new publication called Engaging With Your Municipality.
The publication is an effort to help rural Albertans better understand municipal processes for development permits, subdivision applications, appeals, property assessments and petitions.
It provides an overview for preparing an appeal and information on recent changes to the Municipal Government Act and Ombudsman Act.
The publication can be downloaded or a hard copy can be ordered from the Alberta Ag-Info Centre.
Exporters attend Agroexpo Turkey
Alberta Agriculture and Forestry recently led a mission to Agroexpo 2018 trade show, the biggest livestock and agriculture show in Turkey.
Three Alberta-based companies exhibited at the four-day show as part of an Alberta delegation: Supreme International (feed-mixing equipment), Xports International (live cattle, management, and consulting) and Boda Genetics (sheep and goat genetics).
Early estimations put future sales from participation in the show at about $3.5 million.
The delegation identified future opportunities for live cattle exports, sheep and g oat genetics and feed equipment.
